I've always been confused about when to use "it's" and when to use "its". Finally, I've figured out that it's backwards. Usually an apostrophe then the letter s ('s) means possesion. No, not in the case of the word it. It's means it is or it has. When there is possesion involved like "on its side", there is no apostrophe. I figured I'd post this because I'm probably not the only one who's confused this. Oh no... now I am going to have to think about who's vs. whose. I'm pretty sure I use that correctly, and the same lack of apostrophe applies for possesiveness. I'm trying to improve my grammar, but thank goodness for copy editors. :-)

wow ... that's been one of those things that's been bugging me, but I never get around to looking it up.
... did I use "that's" correctly? damn it! now I'm paranoid
Thanks a lot!
Yeah I think you got it right. What's interesting is that "it's vs. its" trips me up but not "that's" or "what's". I don't know why that is either since the rules seem to be the same... Oh well :-) ~Angela
